Advocacy means acting on another person’s behalf to make sure his or her views are heard. The Yukon Child & Youth Advocate Office believes in advocating for children and youth in the Yukon Territory. This includes young people living in foster homes, group homes or youth custody services, young people who are receiving government services and young people who feel they should be receiving government services.
Advocacy can also mean making your voice heard by people making decisions that affect you. The Yukon Child & Youth Advocate Office can help you speak up on your own behalf, which is called self-advocacy.
The Yukon Child & Youth Advocate Office makes sure that children and youth are protected and supported so they can feel safe, be listened to and respected.
The Yukon Child & Youth Advocate Office can:
- Help you to speak up for your rights
- Help you understand your rights
- Help you to tell your side of the story
