YCAO is an abbreviation and stands for the Yukon Child & Youth Advocate Office.
The Yukon Child & Youth Advocate makes sure that young people from birth to 23 years old who are receiving government services, including young people in care, are treated fairly and have their voices heard.
The Yukon Child & Youth Advocate Office works for children and youth, not for the government. It is an independant office of the Yukon Legislative Assembly, which means it is not a government department. The Yukon Child & Youth Advocate Office can help if a child or youth is receiving a government service and feels they are being treated unfairly, if a child or youth is not receiving a government service he/she is entitled to receive, or if a child or youth is not being heard.
The Yukon Child & Youth Advocate Office believes:
- Young people should be protected and feel safe
- Young peoples' views should be heard, especially when a decision is being made about them
- Young people should get the services they need
If you are a young person in the Yukon Territory and you have a problem getting the services you need or need help with the services you are getting, you can contact the Yukon Child & Youth Advocate Office.
