Child and Youth Advocate Office Hosts Annual Child Rights Impact Assessment Training
Whitehorse...
On September 3rd and 4th, the Yukon Child and Youth Advocate Office and the Territorial Youth Collective hosted the annual Child Rights Impact Assessment (CRIA) training. Participants from numerous Yukon government departments and First Nations governments joined youth representatives from FH Collins, St. Francis of Assisi, Individual Learning Centre and BYTE Empowering Youth to discuss children’s rights and how they are affected in government decisions.
During the training, the group applied a child rights lens to policies that directly or indirectly impact children and youth, using screening and assessment tools developed by the Yukon CRIA working group. Youth provided their perspectives on the proposed policies.
“We are inspired by the level of engagement of all participants. We witnessed dedication to learning and applying children’s rights and integrating the priorities from the Territorial Youth Strategy”, said Annette King, Child and Youth Advocate.
