child rights impact assessments (CRIA) training

September 8 & 9, 2022

The Yukon Child and Youth Advocate Office (YCAO) is recommending Child Rights Impact Assessments (CRIA) be implemented in Yukon Government (YG) so that youth participation is prioritized and children’s rights are paramount in decision making. CRIA is a tool to assess the impacts of policy decisions on children and youth.  It provides an efficient process for verifying that governments are meeting their obligations to uphold children’s rights.

By implementing CRIA, governments demonstrate accountability in fulfilling their obligation to uphold children’s rights thereby reducing the need for individual and systemic advocacy.

In partnership with UNICEF, YCAO hosted a CRIA training for YG policy staff, first nation government officials, educators and other changemakers who have a strong interest in upholding children's rights.
