Review of Systemic Racism in Education

The YCAO and the Yukon First Nation Education Directorate (YFNED) worked together to review racism in education.

The goals of the review were to:

  • Examine how racism impacts Indigenous and other students of colour

  • Understand how students, parents, and communities experience racism

  • Explore whether students in Whitehorse and in communities experience similar forms of racism

Responding to Sexualized Assault in Yukon Schools

YCAO conducted a review focused on the policies, communication, and response of the Departments of Education and Health and Social Services in the wake of a criminal conviction of sexual interference and sexual assault by an Educational Assistant at Hidden Valley Elementary School in 2019.
