Progress Timeline

  • May 2019 – YCAO advised Department of Education of systemic concern regarding inconsistent school attendance

  • Jan 2020 – met with Minister of Education regarding this systemic issue and launched formal review

  • January 2020 - met with First Nations Education Commission

  • June – August 2020 – met with youth in community summer programs

  • August 2020  - met with First Nations Education Commission

  • August - November 2020 - met with First Nations education departments

  • September 2020 – sent out parent/caregiver surveys

  • October 2020 – sent out educator surveys

  • November 2020 – met with educators in focus groups  

  • May 2021 – table report and recommendations to the Yukon Government
