School Attendance
'What is, What Could Be'
The School Attendance Review examines persistent barriers that prevent Yukon children and youth from attending school. Informed by individual advocacy work, youth engagement, and long-standing concerns raised by the Auditor General, the review highlights systemic gaps and calls for meaningful action to better support students across the territory.
Key Milestones (2019-2021)
May 2019 – YCAO advised Department of Education of systemic concern regarding inconsistent school attendance Jan 2020 – met with Minister of Education regarding this systemic issue and launched formal review January 2020 - met with First Nations Education Commission June – August 2020 – met with youth in community summer programs August 2020 - met with First Nations Education Commission August - November 2020 - met with First Nations education departments September 2020 – sent out parent/caregiver surveys October 2020 – sent out educator surveys November 2020 – met with educators in focus groups May 2021 – table report and recommendations to the Yukon Government
